“The prosecution kept detailed records of its expenses in the Peterson caseâ€.
It’s beyond comprehension that the prosecution did not keep such meticulous records and follow up on all the tips called in. While making sure they got reimbursed for their TV, dry cleaning, car washes and boom box, they neglected their basic and I might add, moral duty of protecting and serving. As a result, a mother and her child are dead and an innocent man is on death row.
I guess the TV was seen as a necessity though. By their own words they said they followed what was being said by the pundits, the Court TV gang and all the other shows. (Where is Nancy Grace’s cut on this expense sheet?) It helped them to know what the people were thinking. I guess if you’re losing a case on it’s merits, by all means, go to the public to get their feel on what you should do next. The lynch mob finally had an audience.
Why didn’t they pursue those leads by knocking on doors and doing interviews? Why didn’t they follow up on all of the people who witnessed Laci walking McKenzie? Why are the transcripts full of passing the buck. How many times is it said that a report was made but “I didn’t do it. I don’t know who did but I know it was done?†I did not see an expense for a shredder listed. Could Brocchini have been so careless as to just toss his notes in the trash when it was favorable to the defense? Or maybe having a shredder listed would not help make their case that they followed up on every lead and documented it in a truthful and timely manner.
This case is a travesty. They submit their expense sheet and whine about the cost and nothing was solved and nothing was proven. They provided an environment for a public lynching and nothing more. It’s sad enough that Scott Peterson is on death row for a crime he didn’t commit. But it’s heartbreaking beyond description to know that if the MPD and all the agencies they called in to help them had just once taken their blinders off in those first hours and days, Laci and Conner could have been saved.
I wish more people would read the motion filed by Mark Geragos at the end of your trial. It clearly shows not only the incompetency of the Modesto police, but the blatant corruption as well. As you know, police interviews took place with people who heard an inmate reveal in a taped phone conversation and during yard that Laci confronted Steve Todd during the Medina burglary. It was verified that the person talking to the inmate was in fact friends with Steve Todd, the Medina burglar. The way I see it, those reports should not be missing from discovery. Mark Geragos was very clear in his motion on what happened and I urge anyone seeking the truth in this case to read that motion. I thank God that it is part of your trial record and will not be ignored by the appellate court.
I am so sorry that you and everyone else who loved Laci were let down by the MPD and their tragic rush to judgement.
Hang in there, you have a strong support system and many, many people who are standing by you in your pursuit for justice.
You definitely have strong support system now. We're all pulling for you Scott.
When the Modesto police went public with Scott's alibi, trying to prove he was at the Bay because they didn't believe him.... it was obvious that Scott was a suspect to the MPD. My husband and I both agreed that whoever took Laci, if they eventually killed her, they would probably dispose of the body in the Bay. It doesn't take a genius to figure this out.
Now that we have read all the facts on the case, we know Scott wasn't dumping a body at high noon at the Bay. Why would the MPD be so irresponsible? In my opinion they never had a clue what happened to Laci, and didn't try to find out. Their tunnel vision may have cost Laci her life.
We keep you in our prayers and hope for a successful appeal.
"The cost records for the Scott Peterson trial were among the most comprehensive of those reviewed."
Too bad we can't use the same adjective to describe the investigation of Laci's disappearance and subsequent murder. We know why the cost was so huge. Because there was no evidence against you and the more money they spent and the harder they tried to find something, the more they came up empty handed.
It is truly amazing....the MPD and the prosecution in this case certainly spared no expense to get their man, now did they? I mean, after all, they only settled for the best of the best - represented by the $53.75 tape dispenser they needed, and surely used to tape Karen Servas' all-knowing and all-seeing Austin’s receipt to the blue paper.
“This is apart from the extensive staff that Modesto employed for the search for the bodiesâ€:
This is also amazing. I’d like to know how much this “extensive staff†cost. How much did the Modesto police department pay to tell the killer where to put Laci and Conner’s bodies, to ensure the focus would stay on you and would not move to them? I say “stay on you†because the focus was always on you. All that money spent to do all that searching of the SHALLOW areas of the bay, never to find ANYTHING. I wonder what it was that made the killer(s) nervous enough to risk putting her body in the bay? The Longview sighting? The Tracy tip? The Aponte tip? There are so many to choose from. All of which were either not investigated or investigated, then covered up.
The tunnelvision of the MPD was/is so obvious and supported by Grogan’s shocking comment that Laci sightings were not a priority early in the investigation. This was the time when the Laci sightings should have been their number one priority. Not two years later, after her body had been recovered and your trial had already begun. However, the Laci sightings prove you did not kill your wife and that the MPD’s gut instincts were WRONG on December 24th, so they moved them to the bottom of the priority list, just above “verify the burglars’ storiesâ€.
It sickens me to see your name on a list with the likes of Charles Ng and Richard Allen Davis. But one day Scott, we will see your name on a list with others who have been wrongfully accused AND exonerated, right next to men like Clarence Brandley, David Dowaliby, Gary Dotson and the many, many others.
I admire your incredible strength to withstand the unspeakable hell you’ve had to go through and are still going through. We are here to stand in your fight for justice and will not rest until we get it!!! Hang in there my friend!!
Scott you are not alone in getting screwed by the police. Maybe your case will change some laws on how things go down. Folks don't know until it happens to them.
I'll add I think Scott is innocent and he has support from a few people I know in law. Not everyone thinks the Modesto police did a good job.
Hang in there Scott, you have people people working to help you.
My name is Pat Maguire. I am a 46 year old man who lives in Ohio and I think this case stinks to high heaven. I have never been a trial watcher or a person who got involved with legal cases. But from 3000 miles away I could see that this guy was getting railroaded. I did nothing other than shake my head in disbelief when the case was concluded.
For 2 years I didn't even really think about this case. Then one day I was at the airport and saw a book by Scott's half sister or something similar while in a book store at CVG.
I flipped through the pages and thought that 1. it was total BS and 2. how sad it is that juries, relatives, etc will chase their 30 pieces of silver.
Soon thereafter I started to read the transcripts of this case and read the many sources of information on the web.
I now THINK that Scott is innocent and I KNOW that he did not get a fair trial.
So what should I do? What should you do?
Here is what I think I should do:
1. I will tell a minimum of 1 person a week about the case and ask them to do their own research and join us if they feel compelled to. I don't know Scott Peterson. I have never spoken to Scott Peterson. But I will not sit by and watch a man that has been falsely convicted rot in jail.
2. I will make Scottpetersonappeal.com my start-up page if the people who run this site can put a simple "click here to make this your start page". I am a internet beginner but I have seen other sites do this. What a great way for me, and maybe you to begin our day. We think WE have it bad, let me see this man's plight when I am drinking my first cup of starbucks and feeling sorry for myself.
3. I will put my money where my mouth is. Today the Dow plunged another 200 points after looking like it was going to rally. So be it. I am going to invest in something worthwhile. I will send a check to the address listed on this site for $500 today (I can't get paypal to work). I WILL ALSO MATCH UP TO 3 OTHER PEOPLE WHO WISH TO DONATE UP TO $500 DOLLAR FOR DOLLAR. I WILL PROVIDE A COPY OF MY DONATION TO THE MODERATOR OF THIS SITE SO THAT YOU CAN SEE THAT YOUR DONATION WAS MATCHED.
If anyone else has ideas on how we can get this man who was convicted by the media to be set free, please post it. I have been involved in many big business deals, but I don't think I have ever been involved in something as IMPORTANT as this situation.
Please, donate money with me if you can, and donate ideas whether you can donate money or not.
Pat, what an inspiration you are! We can think of nothing better than to join you in this very generous offer you are making to help Scott. Our $500 check will be mailed out today.
There may be times when this amount is not possible but maybe by sending something each and every month to this cause is something we all can afford. All we need is a sticky note on our computers to remind us to do it faithfully.
No matter what the amount is that people are able to give, I hope there is a tremendous response to your offer that goes beyond your expectations.
You were right....as I sit here and contemplate my day and what to do with it, this young man and his family suffers on a daily basis but if we all pull together, we can end their suffering just by doing whatever we can.
Thank you Pat for starting my day out the right way!
Wow, Pat! What a blessing you are! My husband and I have talked for a while about donating to Scott's defense. We are going to donate $500 via Pay Pal, and the administrator of this site can send you a confirmation of our donation. Thank you for giving us a kick in the rear to do so! And thank you for doubling our donation!!
I can only imagine the cost of the investigation, interviews, testing, experts, and all of the other stuff the MP should have done. I sincerely hope people will be moved to help in whatever way they can to get an innocent man off death row and find true justice for his wife and son.
Thank you, Pat, for getting this started!
Wow Pat!! You ARE an inspiration! I love the idea of telling one person per week.....and what an INCREDIBLY generous offer to match 3 donations! You can count my husband and I as donation #3. I am putting my check in the mail today. How can we not - after your generous offer? The costs for the Petersons must be astronomical. This wrong must be righted!!
I am amazed as how deeply those "in your corner" care about you. This morning I mailed a money order for my contribution as well as matching contributions for John & Robyn, Gibbs, and Linda Smith. I was shocked to see how quickly we were able to team together and gather a total of $3500 in JUST ONE DAY! (note to John & Robyn, Gibbs, and Linda, you can email email@example.com to see a copy of the money order including your matching portion.)Scott I know it is just a fraction of what you'll need but I was happy to see how quickly those folks came to your aid.
I became aware of something strange through this process and maybe I can learn from it. Originally I thought I would just write a check from my account per usual. Then it occurred to me that my wife wouldn't like it. I spoke to her briefly about your case AGAIN (I've done it before) and even though she is 100% anti-capital punishment, she still is not convinced of your innocence. I questioned her about it and she still is stuck on the media/police driven garbage like Laci being found in the marina, the issue with Frey, and the fact that you didn't whine and whimper at your trial.
Even after I explained to her that 1. the police leaked that they were searching that marina and even the dumbest killer would make sure the body was found there to pin it on you. 2. I explained that having an affair does not equate to murder, and 3. that different people react differently to crushing stress levels.
As I was leaving the bank I felt good about myself and I was wondering how I could help to raise additional funds. Surely the speed and quality of your freedom is dependent on paying your legal team.
So anyway,as I was leaving bank it hit me that I often see business card sized advertisements left in restrooms or or other public places with messages to "save your soul" or some other message about religion". Maybe I'll experiment with something similar like "help save an innocent man" and put this website address on it.
Note to this site's monitor : If this is a bad idea, please email me at the address I provided and I will refrain.
I kept my promise today and spoke to my "person of the week" and told him about your case. He is a bright young man in his early 30's and surprisingly he doesn't remember your case or trial. This made me realize something I hadn't thought about. If your are not just set free and have to go trough a second trial before being freed, we will have some young people in the jury who will have open minds. They won't be as jaded or pressured as the original 12 fools.
You've got a strong team behind you Scott!
You are the absolute best!!
Your note started something that was and is beyond awesome. In all of the sad and frustrating times of the past 6 years, you gave my husband and I a feeling of goodness and kindness in the world that we have often forgotten about. You took the mental picture of unfounded hatred and glee with Scott's sentence shown on TV to the world out of our minds forever. You replaced it with your kindness and generosity and the deep caring we all have for freeing an innocent Scott.
I hope this is just the beginning of a new effort to help the Peterson family and Scott. It is so unfair to have so many lives ruined for nothing other than a pedal to the metal false conviction.
Thanks again for your inspiration!
"I hope this is just the beginning of a new effort to help the Peterson family and Scott. It is so unfair to have so many lives ruined for nothing other than a pedal to the metal false conviction."
With the deepest of respect, I do not believe that lives have been ruined by this affair. Conversely, I think that fate/destiny/maybe even a higher power?/ have throw seemingly impossible burdens on certain individuals, their families, their supporters, and their fellow citizens. When confronted by the most insurmountable challenges, we are blessed to have the opportunity to either change the world as we know it, or to simply sit on the sidelines and wring our hands and feel powerless. I'm proud to be on your team John & Robyn.
Destiny has chosen Scott Peterson, and his small but determined allies, to shoulder the burden of exposing police misconduct, prosector vengence, conviction via TV, and inept judgement from the bench. Scott could have folded, his parents could have reacted in a number of ways from acting as vigalantes to becoming hermits, his friends could have deserted him, his supporters could have found another cause. Scott did not. His parents did not. YOU, John and Robyn did not, and we supporters did not.
We have a confluence of a very nice, normal man (flawed as we all are), combined with loving parents, a dedicated family, loyal friends, and even strangers who smell something wrong, all joined in a common cause.
I believe, from my own personal observations, that human behavior can be directly traced and explained by one simple fact, WHAT ACTIONS CAN I TAKE TO FEEL GOOD ABOUT MYSELF AND TO FEEL IMPORTANT?
I saw the video clip of the happy mob jumping up and down when Scott was pronounced guilty. I'll wager everything I have that the very great majority of those people either were involved in the search for Laci or knew someone who was. I saw the picture of a beer belly cop smiling holding a newspaper that either said "guilty" or "death" (I can't remember) with a huge grin on his face. I have heard the clip of when (i think) the same cop (during a TV interview) said "well I guess the high school guy showed up the college boy today" (paraphrasing there).
The fact that a jury "wrote a book" ,oh please, and the well known fact of the influence of the angry auto worker(juror #8) makes this case, and our involvement, a turning point in American justice.
Scott's tribulations, his parent's heartache, his siblings anguish, his friends loss of zest for life, and his supporters time and effort are not in vain.
Scott will win, and we as a nation will benefit from this most important struggle. I am proud to be associated with you John & Robyn, and look forward to meeting you when Scott throws his freedom party (I hope I get invited!).
I'm honored and humbled to be on your team. Sorry it took me so long to get here.
Pat - You SHOULD feel good about yourself - you did a wonderful thing today. You are awesome! Scott is lucky to have you on his side as well.
You have some terrific ideas and a huge heart! Keep working on your wife...she will come around. It took my husband a long time but my hammering him with the true facts FINALLY wiped the media lies from his mind.
I feel the tides are (finally) turning for Scott. Thank you for making my day!
My $500.00 check is in the mail!
Thanks so much, Pat! I pray your generosity begins a chain reaction. You are so right- there's nothing better to invest in than an innocent man's freedom. Forget the stock market! I hope you truly understand what a great thing you did for a worthy man and family- and may this ultimately lead to an even bigger cause: helping to make the necessary changes to our judicial system.
I also believe this family is not letting this ruin them. They have been given the unique responsibility to take on the judicial system to reveal its' flaws, and they are doing that with grace and dignity. I believe God will restore to them the years they've lost!
Thank you again, Pat. Thank you.
Pat, you can be sure that when Mr. Peterson get's another trial, the prosecutor and LE will make sure it hits the media circuit and they will tarnish another jury pool. I am the other "Linda" here, not Linda Smith. If I could donate, I would but I am on a very tight budget.
To Mr. Peterson, I hope when you are exonerated, not will you and your family sue the State, Prosecutor and any LE involved in your case, but I hope the people of California sue to get reimbursed for over paying on their taxes because of the over cost in the trial.
Making poor choices does not make you a murderer and from what I can tell, your first poor judgment started with Shawn S.
Your donation of your time, your compassion, your interest, and your energy, is AT LEAST, and probably more important than money. Please don't worry that LE (does that mean that Late Night Edition show?) will hurt Scott if he has to go through a seccond trial.
During the horrible period after Laci went missing, Scott was easy prey for the LE, the Poparazzi ( I'm sure I spelled that wrong but they are not worthy of my time to look it up), they had TV video vans at his house 24/7, reporters and photographers chasing him, radio stations doing live broadcast with bullhorns calling him out at 6 AM, and other goofs camped out in front of his house.
If there has to be another trial, and I hope he can just be released without one, they are going to face a different situation. No easy pickings this time.
If there has to be a next time Linda, the TV will be focused on an emotionally traumatized young man in his thirties whose wife and child are gone, it will be on you Linda, and me, and all of us in this group LOUDLY demanding justice. I don't belive in Santa, and I don't believe that a thirty something year old (voted freindliest in his high school class),with no history of violence, country club member, married to a wonderful woman after a long relationship, suddenly jumps up and commits the perfect murder when she is preparing to give birth to his male heir.
Linda, if you and me and everyone else who reads this blog understands that we are not just fighting to help Scott, but to prevent this from EVER happening again to any person of any race or income level, we will CRUSH them.
Do you think you can share Scott's plight with one other person each week and help us gain support?
It is easy for the public to shrug off the release of some multiple felon who DNA proves ended up on death row by mistake, but they can't do that with Scott.
Scott is them, or their son, or grandson.
Fortune shined on all of the wrongly convicted, when Scott was sent to
death row. If he had gotten life, I probably wouldn't even remember his name. The media wouldn't be changing their bulbs to be sure that the spotlight was in great shape for the civil trial. Few men other than Scott Peterson could have kept their sanity, few parents other than Scott's could have remained strong, few siblings would have sacrificed so much.
Thank you Linda and I look forward to meeting you at the victory party!
This has been an interesting read indeed. Mr. Peterson, I have concluded I am also somebody who feels that you were done wrong. It doesn't add up. Why did the cops lie about the crime across the street? I agree with McGuire something stinks!
I saw a reference about this case on the Larry King Live website where Laci's mom was upset that Scott had access to the Internet. I started reading the inaccuracies of the case and am really surprised that as viewers we did not hear this side of the case. Whether Scott is innocent or not, he deserves a new trial so that all of these facts can be brought forward. One last thing, whether Laci's mother likes it or not, her comments brought me to this site and allowed me to question the prosecution of Scott.
Thanks for the blog postings it is nice to hear your side for a change. Keep fighting for justice. Your conviction is additional proof that the justice system in the US is broken and out of control. When a man can be sent to death row with no evidence something is very wrong. I'm starting to think the jury system is wacked.
I pray for a fair and honest appellate court.
I am someone who was never a trial watcher. I never really paid much attention to any of them but there was something about this case that grabbed my attention from day one and it has been on my mind everyday since that day.
Why is it that police can make up their mind about someone in the first 30 mins of meeting them? That decision changed not just Scott's life but two families lives forever.
Every tip should have been investigated not just the ones that fit with what the police wanted to believe.
What made them believe Scott was guilty? A lot of nothing.
What I will never understand is how people can say he is guilty based on an affair with Frey? Affairs happen everyday.
I saw Sharon's concerns on Scott having internet access and what I have to say is this: I do feel sorry for Sharon I know what it feels like to lose a daughter but we have heard all your thoughts and opinions for years now it is time we hear from Scott.
I wish I was able to donate money at this time but do to health conditions I am not able to work, but as soon as I can I will. What I can do is recommend people look at this site and read it and see that our justice system has flaws that need to be addressed and corrected so innocent people do not end up in jail for a crime they did not commit.
Scott I will always be on your side for as long as it takes until you walk out a free man and justice really is served.
I may not be able to help financially with anything right now until this economy of ours gets back to some sort of normalcy, but I do support you in every way, shape and form and will continue to tell people who I come across who know of you of your innocence. I pray for you and your family on a daily basis that your able to get a fair trial next time around, and that you'll finally be free.
My wife and I thank all of you who have contributed so generously to help our son Scott. This past nearly 6 years has been so unbelievable. We have seen the very worst of people like the police who quite possibly let Laci and the baby die while they schemed to implicate Scott. The prosecution who did not honor their oath to protect the rights of all citizens. The media whose constant barrage of garbage polluted the jury pool and made a fair trial impossible. And we have seen the best in people who support Scott and our family. Without your support I do not know how we could keep going. I am certain this corruption of justice has caused my wife to have been hospitalized and near death 3 times in the last year, as the weight of this travesty has crushed down on her. I live in a near constant state of acute sadness which only lifts when with our family and good friends and when I hear of the generosity of you good folks who believe in Scott's innocence.
Be assured that Jackie, myself and our family will never quit this fight. We are faced off against the unlimited resources of the state and that is a formidable challenge to be sure. I do however believe in a just God who will insure that our side will prevail. Let us pray for God's guidance as we continue our efforts to free Scott.
I am so thankful for this blog. After relentless support for Scott in the last 5 years, it does my heart good to hear from Scott, his family and friends. After reading these comments my hope has been restored in the human race. We, the supporters of Scott, must stay strong and never give up on the Petersons. They are so worthy of our support and my heart aches for them everyday. The fight has just begun for justice, we can see it through.
It's amazing the amount of inaccuracies and incompetence associated with this case. I felt in my gut that Scott wouldn't do this and I shared that thought with everyone I knew. Then after the case was completed and the transcript posted, my initial gut feeling was proved true. How does an investigation get so bumbled? We live in a cynical world and that coupled with a rush to judgement convicted Scott, NOTHING MORE. I have sent things through B&N to Scott as I could. Books and such are a small expression of my faith in him and lack of faith in the "system"...I wish I could do more! In retrospect, I wonder what anyone's actions may prove if their life was placed under a microscope like Scott's, Shame on the investigators and shame on the mensa candidates called the jury! The whole family are in my thoughts and prayers!
I am a father, so I only can understand it from a man's point of view, and I am sorry if I am sexist, but the pride that comes from knowing that you are about to have a BOY, an infant that will carry your family name, a boy you will play catch with and watch him play football.
you are married and got to go to college and you killed him, your heir?
NO WAY JOSE
I don't know how they keep stats but I'll bet you a dollar to a dime that it almost never happens that a married man kills his pregnant wife UNLESS HE CATCHES HER WITH ANOTHER MAN and it is a crime of passion.
I have never read that his wife was anything short of an angel.
Where is the common sense in this? How many death row cases today are from a non cheating wife who was pregnant?
Something is wrong here.
Hi Scott, I just wanted to wish you a happy birthday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I bet Laci always made your birthdays special. I hope you kick butt in your upcoming civil trial. Laci and Conner will be watching over you! Love,Rhonda
Happy Birthday Scott!
My wish for you is that in the coming year you will find hope, peace and a clear path to exoneration and freedom.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.
Happy Belated Birthday Scott.
I enjoy the blogs and it's sad sometimes how our judicial system can eliminate evidence..
The media plays out what they want the people to see.
In my Prayers.
I sincerely hope that, if you are innocent, that you will be released. You have friends in distant places.
Donate now to help bring justice for Laci, Conner and Scott.
