Scott this is another example of law enforcement and the media railroading someone based on an affair and speculation. As soon as I heard this latest news I immediatly thought of you and your case. All this time they have been accusing Mr. Condit of this heinous crime, all along the real killer was roaming free. Accused of murder with nothing more than an affair as evidence. He got lucky in the sense that he was never arrested but I'm sure ruined his life on many levels. You got hit with both of these things as did your family. The whole thing is utterly insane and I am hoping that in time (sooner than later) the real evidence and person(s) responsible for Laci and Conner's deaths are discovered and this can begin your healing process. Our system lacks so much and the media must be controlled. Factors like that make it impossible to uncover the truth. I'm not sure how you hang in there every day. I know that I would not have the strength that you and your family have but I'm glad you do! I also hope that when this next trial phase happens alot of what was not seen and heard can come out and maybe this time you can possibly explain away some of the accusations that were thrown your way. There are so many questions that you could answer that would change many minds if you were given the chance to be heard and explain things that people automatically assumed.
You know what guys, I am a Canadian and up here we dont judge anyone. I followed the trial and I must say the Media is guilty for influencing guilt with the Jurors. I dont think Scott killed Laci and Connor, as sad as this story is, justice will prevail, Scott, I truly dont know how you keep the strength sir but however you do it, keep it up. I believe that you will be freed in due course and eventually get the right to sue all sons of bi##@# that put you where you are today.Keep the faith and god bless man.
Not only that - but the perp in the Levy case was an illegal alien. Why didn't the media bring up that problem?
Legal resident or illegal alien is irrelevant. Both legals and illegals in this country are equally capable of murdering, and both legals and illegals are capable of being good people and contributing to society.
I too thought of your case Scott and was shocked to learn of the news. There is great hope in knowing from this turn of events that your justice is not far from looming the corner. I agree with most of what E. Hernandez stated, so I wont repeat myself here. Scott, keep the faith, and just know you have many supporters out there who keep that hope alive. Until then my friend.
It's obvious to me why Condit was vilified in the media. He had an affair and the hypocrites in America love to point their fingers. Never mind that millions do it, and lie about it. Kind of a no-brainer why they lie about it. I could write a list a mile long with examples but my guess is everyone reading this blog already knows affairs and lying about them are common and nothing new.
What I find disgusting is the media vilification of ANY person during an investigation into a crime, before an arrest or trial. Buying into media speculation is dangerous and in my opinion to many Americans have fallen into the trap of letting themselves be spoon-fed by media pundits paid to boost ratings. Had Levy's body been found sooner, I think Condit could have been arrested and found guilty because of people like Rush Limbaugh, Nancy Grace, Greta whatsherface, etc. I myself gave up watching cable news a long time ago. I wonder if Rush Limbaugh will now apologize for his disgusting comments? Doubtful. The media vilification in Scott's case was very similar but went on much longer and with more intensity. Media vilification on Condit stopped when 911 hit, for Scott it never stopped. Does this vilification affect the outcome of a trial? Absolutely. The Supreme Court agrees with me. Sheppard anyone? In Scott's case there was no evidence. None at all. The jurors tried to justify their death sentence by claiming the bodies washed up not very far from where Scott went fishing, and that Scott dumped her body that afternoon in the Bay. Maybe his attorney should have called expert Nancy Grace to the stand. I can still hear her saying with such strong conviction that the State MUST go with a "two trip theory" because " believe you me, if he is, in fact, guilty, he did not dispose of Laci's body at that time in plain view in the middle of the day." Uh huh. I agree. The most intelligent thing the woman has ever said on TV. Scott was convicted because he had an affair. Condit should be counting his lucky stars, and I bet he is.
I agree with the sentiments expressed, with one exception. I don't recall if this happened with Condit, but I know it happened with Scott. The media didn't drive the frenzy, the police did, with their leaks to various news organizations -- leaks that had blatantly false information. Just ask the regular person on the street why Scott is guilty, and he/she will recite evidence that was widely circulated in the media but proven to be false. How the media failed Scott and us is that they sucked up to the police and believed everything they were dished out. No one questioned anything.
LESSON: Don't trust any investigation that leaks what evidence it has to the media. There's only one reason to do that: they have no evidence, and therefore they must convict him with false evidence before the trial.
I bet so many people are saying that if Condit hadn't lied about the affair, he would have never been accused. But I find even more interesting that, like you mentioned, Scott, as soon as people knew about the affair, Condit's activities suddenly became "suspicious". I think Condit's case is one of the best examples we have of how manipulated the public is by the media! Does anyone know how to think for themselves anymore?!? Or have we become so lazy that we'd rather sit in front of tv and watch the gossip kings and queens, who have no soul, come up with the best story for the night so their show can become #1? And then, they become jurors. SCARY!
I am glad we get to hear from you, Scott. I'm not sure if you get to hear from us and read our comments. But nevertheless, it's nice to be out here with others who also believe in your innocence. I have commented many times on your blogs and your family, and I enjoy hearing from them.
I agree that Condit was given a bad rap, and I am ashamed to admit at the time I believed he did it too. But relating the case to yours, I can see where it would all be misleading, and it's sad that jurors were able to convict you without any evidence. I continue to pray that justice will prevail one day. I think you are on death row because you had an affair, not because you were proven guilty of murder.
Scott, I too had my own (wrong) opinion about the case of Jon Benet Ramsey. I always figured her Mother (the evil stage mommy) was involved in some major way. Now that Mrs. Ramsey has died and new DNA testing procedures eliminated her as a suspect I feel terrible. I can't imagine the pain that woman went through not only losing her child but also having people think she was involved. I'm so sorry that you and your family are living a similar nightmare.
I have followed your case from the start and was disgusted at how the media speculated about how one should act when their wife disappears.
Indeed, how should one "act?" Who of us knows, and God forbid we ever know it. I also have read every book (even the self published) and am further disgusted at some of the books written by private citizens along with their lack of responsibility for their actions & statements. It is a sad day in America when a man is tried and convicted publicly before the police have even gathered enough evidence to arrest him. And then imprisoned by popular opinion I am truly sympathetic with your family, the Petersons, whose feelings and lives have been trampled on and disregarded. Feelings trampled on when their/your private pain is splashed across the television every other month (this, 7 years out!) through outlets such as: E! "True" Hollywood Story, Biography, MSNBC reports, & American Justice. And, the life of you, their son, disregarded without any evidence! I was amazed at the holes in this case when I read the transcripts. I believed that here in America you had to prove a case based on REAL evidence and beyond a reasonable doubt- 2 things that this case lacks. There isn't even a cause of death! I cannot express how sorry I am for the loss of such vibrant & beautiful lives. I want you to know that at least one person uses common sense and also prays in the name of Laci, Conner, & you Scott. And to Lee and Jackie, I wish I could offer support in person but please accept it in the only form I can provide it; through this. P.S. Have you read about the story of Clarence Elkins? Tried & convicted for the rape and murder of his mother-in-law, the case was overwhelmed with physical evidence none of it indicating him and he was STILL convicted. He was only freed later when by some miracle a sex-offender who had been his mother-in-laws neighbor was locked up with him for a similar crime. He attained some DNA from this person and it was proven that although he had "motive" (supposedly he loathed his mother-in-law), opportunity, and acted strangely, he was innocent! Thank God!
A lot of us used to believe everything we heard or read about certain cases so you are not alone Scott. The media can be very influencial and when you add 24/7 talking heads to the mix, it's a deadly combination. And NO case illustrates this more than yours.
I remember Dan Abrams and Nancy Grace often saying that they didn't have to believe in innocent until proven guilty....if they did, then they in essence would be saying the "cops are always wrong" and they didn't want to do that.In their opinion, this gave them free rein to say whatever they wanted and condemn anyone "they" deemed guilty. Condit wasn't the first and you won't be the last unfortunately. All you and the rest of us can collectively do is educate others with the facts and take it one step at a time. Your family site and SII are the tools we have at our disposal to present the truth and one day soon, you too will be a free man with your reputation back and a chance to rebuild your life. Hang in there. We know it's tough but there will be resolution to this tragedy and one day, the world will be your stage for the plight of wrongful convictions. You will be the one example of how a family tragedy turned into a nightmare of epic porportions that served no other purpose except to convict an innocent man and let the guilty go free....the same as what almost happened in the Condit case. When will this insanity end in this country? When will the truth matter more than winning at any cost? When will people stop making money on the backs of the innocent? God bless you and keep you and your family in his arms until you all emerge from the darkness of this storm.
I just want to pop in and say a few things.
First...the media is the driving force. Because of the "talking heads" how many people get a fair trial these days??? The media needs to be controlled. 2nd...."odd behavior". Makes me shake my head EVERYTIME I hear this comment. HOW...HOW does anyone act when they find out a family member is missing, or murdered??? Is there a right/wrong way to behave???? Until YOU walk in those shoes....YOU have NO idea how you will act. I could not tell you how I would be....how I would act....how I would handle myself. I can not even begin to understand how you felt Scott. The panic you felt when you realized that Laci was missing. The anger you must of felt when PD was not following up on leads. The sadness you must of felt when Laci's family turned against you. The frustration you must of felt when the media attacked you. The sadness, the pain, the loss of hope when they found Laci and Conners bodies. The pain that you feel everyday for the loss of your beautiful wife and son. As always it's good to hear from you Scott and your family. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. Lynne
Scott, It is so nice to hear from you. My husband Charlie and I never needed any convincing in your case. We new from day one you were so wrongfully accussed and now so wrongfully convicted. Yet that jury of yours still manages to get their face somehow shown on TV. They are disgusting. That entire thing was disgusting and at your expense. If only the waiting game would end and you would be set free. They have wasted enough of your time.
I just wanted to say that I watched the entire trial and as sad as it is that you had an affair, that truly doesn't make one a murderer. Now, if it was, well...I think we'd be building more prisons than Walmart's
Siobhan
Please always remember, this is supposed to be a country that presumes innocence and proves guilt using something other than heresay or weak circumstantial evidence. Condit was cheating, yes, but as you know, a cheater doesn't automatically mean a killer. Condit and Scott both cheated, but since when does this mean that the next step will be murder?
There was never any real evidence against Condit. Until there is some solid evidence, I will continue to believe that he, like Scott, is innocent.
Scott, That jury was an absoute joke, keep the faith and remember you have your supporters. Alfred
Media paid DA to do it so that way Media can make money based on how many viewers are watch TV and media giving DA some money for their future politics. I believe USA need a set up a new law that media should not be part of law system ever again. And Have to be 100% physical evidence in the court. It need fixing law system badly. DA don't have any evidence bring in court but DA and Media work together that send Scott to death. I think we need an independent DA across USA. Look at Duke 3 students was arrested for rape...DA rush and pressure while no evidence in court that result 3 students free and DA is in deep trouble, how? because they send to higher court along with higher judge to look at it. Scott need this much higher court and along with judge the way they might look at case and determine.
Asking for re-test on DNA and keep looking around and see if there have camera out there that might be your best chance to prove. Most of time police don't know there some camera out there unless people bring it to police. its scary that the law system is just had about 30% fiction and only 70% facts in court. We need 100% facts and 0% of fictions!
I am still not sure if Scott killed Laci and conner.I feel if he did it was not on purpose.but he should have called to report the accident.i would love to read all the evidence in the case on both sides. As i feel i am a open minded person .i still to this day feel sorry for both scott and Laci's family.so if theres anywhere i can read up on this to learn more let me know. may God be with you and your family. And if a new trial happens then maybe your side will be better presented
Scott, I never believed that you murdered Laci & Conner. It is too bad that you got involved with that Amber.
The media can make anyone believe anything they want. The media got you convicted, and also got us stuck with Obama. Hope you get another trial and it's off limits to the media. Best wishes and good luck, Laura
I just read the recent article in People magazine. I remember well the media frenzy that went on during the trial. It actually started way before trial, it started as soon as Laci Peterson went missing. I couldn't get away from the coverage and I live thousands of miles from California. The media and public were more concerned about a man in California having a brief sexual affair than they were about the war our government was starting in Iraq. I found it disturbing. Why was so much attention put on this one case and this one man? The AG called the case against Peterson a "slam-dunk" so I was taken aback when there was no evidence presented at trial that proved Peterson killed his wife and unborn child. What slam dunk?? On the other hand, I did see plenty of reasonable doubt despite the pundits continued and daily assault on Peterson. It was even more disturbing when Scott Peterson was convicted and given the death penalty in such a case.
Mr. Peterson I hope you will prevail on appeal. It's good to see you blogging. Clearly you are an intelligent man and of substance unlike those that condemned you.
Count me as another believer in Scott's innocence. The trial was a joke. Where is the proof??!
The media is out of control. This was Sam Sheppard all over again. Laws need to be put in place to protect people from the media, and to protect our justice system from the effects of the bozos on TV.
Scott your case turned me against the death penalty and made me want to become a lawyer. When I graduate college I will be applying to law school. I hope to be a better lawyer than Mark Geragos and not have innocent clients sent to prison, let alone death row.
Keep the faith.
I came across your blog from people.com and it's shed new light on your story for me. I remember the case, and remember thinking Scott was guilty, but I also remember not really having a reason for thinking that. Like most of the American public, I knew nothing about the actual case and knew only what I heard from the media. If he is truly innocent, or even if he is guilty, I hope he gets a truly fair day in court. Keep doing what you're doing, I think people are starting to listen up and realize that something is wrong in this case.
Happy Easter Scott.
I use to believe that you were guilty until I decided to research something that just didnt add up to me. I do believe the media judged you. You can't tell someone how "you're suppose to act when a loved one dies." We all grieve in our own way. But a guilty person wouldn't look at a picture of there victim EVERYDAY..... I'm so sorry. We are the exact same age and I hope you read this.... Please accept my apology as it's not place to judge. God be with you and your family.
i really dont know if you are guilty or innocent what i do know is that the justice system in this country is so corrupt that there has not been a fair trial in this country in atleast the last fifty years if not longer good luck scott
Scott, I never believed you killed Lacey. I was born and raised in Modesto, I know the park and it is a scary place with transients who are up to no good. I believe in my heart that someone out there knows who did this to Lacey and they will be found. Keep the faith. The media like so many times before has railroaded you and runined your families lives. We will pray for you and your family ----
Has anyone read the article about Scott in People magazine??? I believe it came out this week or last week. It gave the link to here....(hopefully) giving more people the opportunity to come here and find out the truth AND support him and the Peterson family.
Lynne
I am sorry....It's not People magazine, but People.com. Either way....I hope many people read it....and come here and see for themselves what we all believe in...SCOTT IS INNOCENT!!!!
Good post Scott, and you hit the point well. Those of us who know Chief Wasden and the MPD know, that this is what happened to you. I'm just waiting for the appeal when Chief Wasden is exposed to the entire nation. He will than be the villian, not you. Hang in there Scott. Justice is coming.
Scott,
Keeping you in the prayer that the truth is revealed sooner than later. I have never believed you guilty of murder. I ask again? Where is the evidence? My opinion? The state of California simply didn't want egg on their face again after the jumbled up job they did on the OJ Simpson trial and you my friend are having to pay for it. Keep the peace and God's light will prevail for you.
Great blog Scott and you are so right! I've always believed you were innocent and hope someday you are exonerated!
just wanted to say that i think your lawyers let you down in agreeing to have you tried where you were. that county is well known for higher conviction rates than you would have risked even in san francisco with the pretrial publicity. i wasn't there, i didn't see/hear the evidence, and i have no conclusions as to guilt or innocence. but if venue can be an issue, it really should have been. the choice of county was a terrible mistake. my husband and I were both shocked that your lawyers were so ignorant as to allow you to be tried there. i have a feeling they bankrupted your family and seriously let you all down.
I will bet my last dollar that Nancy Grace wasn't with CourtTV at the time, otherwise I am sure Mr. Condit would be sitting on death row right now.
I just want to say that the American media these days seems to serve as prosecutor and judge before any trial happens, and police forces are only proven to be wrong in their jump-the-gun investigations waaaaaaay too long after the fact. I really hope Scott gets the justice he deserves. Have you considered writing a book?
I am an RN who followed the trial. I admit I was swayed by the media and figured that Scott was guilty. I am now less certain after having reviewed info. on this website. Additionally, I find it worrisome that at least one juror was quoted as saying that, had the bodies not washed up near the place Scott went fishing, "we wouldn't be here". That alone seems to be quite a reason to doubt the verdict of guilty. I feel sorrow and empathy for the Peterson family. I hope Scott gets a second trial with good attorneys. I feel his case did not get the best representation the first time around.
I must admit I thought Scott was guilty. And how could I not, after watching the media? Now, I have doubts. I shudder to think what kind of person is capable of murdering his wife and even more so his son who was about to enter this world. Even more so, why wouldn't he just get a divorce if he wanted out? There have been numerous cases that only had circumstantial evidence and the accused was found not guilty because that is the law. Why is this case so different? Everyone wanted justice, understandably, someone to pay for this horrible act. Scott was the easiest suspect, and the affair just did him in. Are there any authorities or private investigators still looking for another suspect? What about any parallels found with any other missing persons in the Modesto area since Scott has been behind bars? I do hope and pray that the truth does come out of all this.
After reading that awful book by Anne Bird, my first thought was, "god, what a dishonest witch, and maybe the guy didn't do it."
I've written Scott a letter. Nancy Grace is frightening---all you have to do is watch her with the sound off for five seconds. But then, I think television is basically evil----and may very well be responsible for sending an innocent man to his death. Speak out Scott, keep speaking...tell your story. Don't be silent.
I am so pissed that the media has turned into the justice system.Shows like Nancy Grace taint potential jurors. I have studied Scott's case and truly believe that he is innocent. the media had him convicted from the moment he was named a suspect. I pray for you Scott and hope that you are exonerated before its to late
Speaking of Nancy Grace, she must really hate men in general. I don't like her at all. The media has turned this case and others into a three ringed circus and Scott and others have been found guilty because of it...its ridiculous!!!
I don't beleive Scott did this, I think it was someone who wanted to abduct Lacy for the baby and the whole thing went bad. The whole story of why Scott did it didn't make any sense at all! When they read the guilty verdict I was shocked and knew an innocent man was going to prison. The crowd outside was like a medieval linch mob! My thoughts go out to the Peterson family and for Scott and I hope one day...the truth will be known. Stay strong! |
