We hope you had a wonderful holiday season. I love the story of Christmas and the hope that comes with it. After sharing the holidays with family, Joe and I went up to see Scott the day after Christmas. We truly do treasure the simple things in our relationship with him, whether it's a hug, our conversations while we visit, or the letters we receive from him. Our time with him is always so special.
As the wheels of justice slowly turn, there are two significant events that will most likely occur this year. First, we're hoping that the state will soon assign Scott an appellate attorney to handle his direct appeal. (Our family has been retaining Cliff Gardener to handle the habeas petition). The second is the upcoming civil trial against Scott currently scheduled for May. While I can't say we look forward to Scott being sued, we do welcome the opportunity to share the truth.
We thank you for your prayers and support over the past year and may you treasure the simple things and be blessed this coming year!

I had seen an article this week on a man who was wrongfully convicted of rape and released after 18 years in prison. I thought it would be a good article to share in our blog so to find it, I Googled 'rape, 18 years'. The first article below is the story I had read about. Unfortunately I found that there have been at least two other men in recent years exonerated by DNA after spending 18 years in prison for a rape they didn't commit. Their erroneous convictions were, in part, the result of false eye witness testimony, incomplete DNA screening, and inaccurate hair analysis. Scary trend. It makes me wonder how many innocent people (like Scott) are in jail that don't have DNA to exonerate them.
